Weights and Measures
The Auditor is responsible for testing the accuracy of weighing and measuring devices used in the sale of food, fuel, and other commodities, protecting both buyer and seller from possible loss.
Devices tested annually include:
-
Retail motor fuel dispensers at filling stations used to pump gasoline, diesel, and other types of fuel. (Note: Auditors have no authority to test fuel for water, sediment, or octane level. Ohio is just one of three states with no statewide testing program for fuel quality.)
Other types of testing:
The Auditor appoints deputy inspectors to perform and carry out these duties. Each inspector is required to receive training and certification from the Ohio Department of Agriculture, Division of Weights and Measures.
Remember to look for the Auditor’s current year approval sticker on weighing and measuring devices.
